Important Questions to Ask Before Renting a Moving Truck
Moving to a new home is such a big step. So many decisions have to be made, not only about the location of the new home, but also about the moving process itself. Indeed, there are a lot of factors to be considered and a lot of options to choose from. One of the most important things that have to be decided upon is how the possessions are going to be moved from one place to the other. Some of the options included are paying for a full moving service, renting a moving truck, or renting a moving pod. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to the client to determine which of these methods will be the most appropriate.
Whatever choice the client makes, he has to be extra careful about weighing in the disadvantages. The problem with these shortcomings is that sometimes, the client is not made aware of them from the get go. It is then up to him to discover that he made the wrong choice because of incorrect or incomplete information.
To prevent this from happening, the client should be certain that he has complete information about every step of the moving process. He should not be too shy to confirm some details of the process, because as a paying client, it is his right to know these things.
Here are some important questions to ask when moving using a rented truck.
How big is the truck?
Truck is actually a very general term. Trucks, moving trucks in particular, come in a variety of sizes. While the bigger moving trucks offer a definite space advantage, they are much more difficult to drive. This is the main disadvantage of large trucks. People who do not have much experience in driving extremely large vehicles would do better to consider the smaller moving trucks instead.
How much mileage does the moving truck get?
Part of the agreement of renting a moving truck is paying for the gas that it consumes. The client should consider the mileage he can get per gallon of gas. Large trucks are notorious for consuming large amounts of gas, so the costs can add up to quite a large amount.
What other fees need to be paid?
The moving company may charge extra fees that the customer may not be aware of at the beginning. Before signing any rental agreement, the customer should ask about extra fees such as for mileage restrictions, gas limits, and the like.
What is the state of the equipment being rented out?
The moving company is unlikely to provide any information about the condition of the equipment being rented out. If possible, the customer should ask to see the equipment to determine its condition. Taking the time to do this is much better than having to transfer all the objects from one truck to another because the first truck broke down in the middle of the journey.
Will the company provide loading platforms?
Loading platforms are a necessity, particularly with large trucks. This way, instead of having to lift heavy boxes just to put them into the truck, the client can just push or pull these boxes, which requires less effort.
